Flame retardant antimony trioxide nanoparticles were prepared and its application in coating was studied in this dissertation. The size , size distribution, morphology and optical effect of particles were identified by XRD, TEM , FT-IR. Sb2O3 nanoparticles with average diameters of 44.5, 33, 30, 52, 26nm and well dispersed were prepared by direct and homogenous precipitation processes, coupling route of hydrolyzation of metal alcoholate with homogeneous precipitation , solid state reaction method and microemulsion method respectively. Effects of experimental conditions on the Sb2O3 particles size were discussed in detail . The optimal conditions of direct precipitation processes, coupling route of hydrolyzation of metal alcoholate with homogeneous precipitation and solid state reaction method were obtained by orthonormal experiments. This is the first report of preparing nano-Sb2O3 by solid state reaction method. FT-IR results showed that IR absorption of was nano-Sb2O3 blue-shifted when the diameter of nano-Sb2O3 reduced in some value , however , when the diameter of nano-Sb2O3 reduced further, red-shift effects were strengthened and competed to blue-shift effects which caused that IR absorption of nano-Sb2O3 did not shift obviously and became broad . The modification epoxy powder coating was prepared by adding nano-Sb2O3 to epoxy powder coating and its properties were studied.
