In this paper, the glycolide and lactide were synthesized with glycolic acid and lactic acid. Details of the synthesis polyglycolic acid (PGA) were described ,as well as a series of glycolide /latide and glycolide/ ε -caprolactone copolymers by a ring-opening polymerization of glycolide, lactic and e -caprolactone upon initiation with an appropriate amount of stannous octoate . The experimental conditions of the synthesis for polymers had successfully researched, including the effects of reaction temperature, time, initiator and so on.The property and structure of polymers were characterized by DSC, TG, 'H/I3C-NMR and XRD etc.. The results show that the crystallinity, the thermal stability ,hydrophobic/hydrophilic balance and biodegradability were governed by adjusting the percentage of glycolide, lactic and ε -caprolactone in the respective copolymers. It was found that weight and viscosity were decreased with raising of degradation time, but the crystallinity was increased by the biodegradation behaviors of polyglycolide and its copolymers in the testing of polymersIn short, it shows that biodegradability and the thermal stability were validly improved by the copolymerizations of lactic acid or ε -caprolactone with glycolic acid in the paper.
