9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-l0-phosphaphenanthrene-10-oxide (DOPO for short) is a novel reactive flame retardant intermediate .The polymers containing it have effective thermal stability and flame retardance. It can be used in electronic materials and synthetic fibers , further in semiconducter-sealing .In this paper a mixture containing DOPO is synthesized firstly with phosphorous trichloride and o-phenylphenol. Then the mixture is turned to DOPO in toluene solution. Factors influencing the product yield are discussed; such as catalyst type, mol ratio of raw material, catalyst amount, reaction temperature, reaction time. Best conditions are found in orthogonal test.A novel reactive flame retardant 6-oxide-6H-dibenz(c,e)(l,2)oxaphosphorin -6-yl-butanedioic acid is synthesized.
