Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP), as a functional high molecular material, possesses the excellent properties such as water-absorption, water-retention. SAP has been widely used in many fields. The study mainly focused on the synthetic method and reaction mechanism before, but considering the environmental protection and economic continuous development, we have paid more attention to the study of biodegradability. Many research organizations have done the item in foreign country. Now SAP we used is almost polyacrylics resin, there are two problems: it is weakly biodegradable, which results in the pollution of ground water and environment; the second one is the shortage of petroleum resources. More and more attention has been paid to the preparation of SAP by grafting the ethylenic unsaturated monomers onto polysaccharides in order to decrease the environment pollution.With sodium alginate and acrylic acid as raw material, biodegradable high water absorbent material was prepared. The sodium alginate is natural polymer which can supply high concentration, high activity to microorganism and growth background. This may lead to polyacrylics resin biodegradability.The high water absorption was prepared by grafting acrylic acid partly neutralized by sodium hydroxide onto the polysaccharides of sodium alginate by means of inverse suspension polymerization. The reaction was initiated by potassium persulfate and crosslinked by N, N'-methylene bis acrylamide. The capability of absorbing pure water is important index to judge the resin. To improve the capability of absorbing water, the synthesis under a series of process conditions is studied to improve the capability, including stirring speed, reaction temperature, concentration of crosslinking agent, concentration of initiator and the neutralization degree of acrylic acid.The result shows that product with good comprehensive performance can be gained under optimizational experiment conditions, the optimized technological conditions are the mass of sodium alginate 10%(Wt), the mass of acrylic acid 10mL, the neutralization degree of acrylic acid 60%, the mass of initiator 1%, the mass of crosslinker 0.08%, the reaction temperature 75℃, the time of reaction 3.5 hours...
