As a method suitable for lifting of viscous heavy oil, gas bearing oil and sand laden oil, the technology of progressive cavity (PC) pump has found applications on a certain scale in quite a number of oil fields in the world. Since the mid 1980s, this technology has taken shape and spread out in some oilfields of China, and however, the manufacture and application of PC pump got its preliminary perfection in the early 1990s.Through the history of use of PC pump in Shengli Oilfield, it is apparently found that there have been a number of contradictions in the application and spreading of PC pump. If it is said that the manufacture technology and matching technology of PC pump were of less quality and prevented it from being popularized on a given scale in early phase, then the chief contradiction that affects its spreading after the mid 1990s is that there is a lack in study of higher level management technique of PC pump. It is blind to conduct management without techniques, which results in lower success ratio of work over treatment, shorter free work overtime, higher fault rate, and higher cost of management. All this has suggested a requirement for management technique from the dark side, that is, a set of effective standards of management techniques should be formulated on the basis of further research into the oil production method of PC pump, which will include such operations as testing, diagnosis and design of PC pump oil well.This paper introduces the research results of techniques of testing PC pump oil well through one-year efforts. Which covers the mathematical models of a number of force characteristics strength analysis, and resonance critical problems of rotation rod-string in PC pump wells: resulting of testing method of polish-rod load and rotation rate on the basis of feasible demonstration and technical requirement analysis; study and manufacture of system of testing PC pump well, which involves sensor, collector ring, acquisition circuit and computer; research and determination of assistant technology of testing force on rotation polish-rod and formulation of testing force on polish-rod. A spot testing has been carried out by means of the above research fruit and good results have been achieved.The success testing results in has laid a strong foundation for the oil well diagnosis. Analysis can be made with the help of testing results so as to know the further problems of operation statue in oil well. There is still much to do and it is very meaningful to do. This paper gives an introduction to the episodic research fruit of management techniques of PC pump well. Which is the first and critical step in the future work.
