The progress and the prospect in the research of organic-inorganic hybrid optical materials have been systematically summarized in the paper. The luminescence behaviors of single-coating TEOS/GPTMS films or multiple-coating TEOS/GPTMS films on the glass or silicon by dip-coating, which were doped with the Eu3+ complexes and Dibenzoylmehane (DBM) or 2-theonyltrifluoroacetone (TTA). have been investigated. Also, the luminescence behaviors of the gel films doped with Tb3+ complexes with p-Hydroxybenzoic acid (Hy) or sulphosalicylic acid (SSA) have been investigated. The influence of the matrix composition, the doping concentration of lanthanide ions, the species of ligands and the coating layer number of films on luminescence behavior of lanthanide complexes doped gel films were described. Moreover, the luminescence behaviors and I-V characteristic curves of the silicon solar energy cell doped with Eu3+ complexes and Tb3+ complexes doped coatings which were prepared by dip-coating have been investigated. The Eu3+ complexes and Tb complexes doped coatings have effectively converted the UV lights to the visible ones, which are more sensitive for c-Si PVCs. As results, the improvement obtained in the silicon solar cell efficiency has been found to be about 10-15 % when the Eu3+ complexes and Tb + complexes co-doped coatings were used on silicon solar cells.
