Anthropometry is one of the most important basic tasks in the apparel industry. At present, there are mainly about two methods of human body measurement, including contact measurement and non-contact measurement. Contact measurement is the primary method used in the enterprise, but because of its disadvantages, many countries have been applying themselves to developing the non-contact measurement system since 1980. The common obstacles faced with them are high costs, complicated installation, large spaces and dark room requirement etc. Due to those problems, we developed a non-contact human body measurement system from 2001, which is a natural light-based system with single CCD camera. And till now, we had accomplished the tasks that realized non-contacting-automatic human body measurement to youth.On the base of former studying, the paper aims at the young men's bodies, and proposes to establish a gray model in the application of predicting other sizes with the character dimensions. So, the non-contact body measurement system for young men is developed.Firstly, using the gray link analysis theory, the measurements measured by hand are analyzed and height, weight, breast girth, waist girth and hip girth are confirmed to be the characteristic dimensions, which lay a foundation for gray modeling of human body shape.Secondly, for the first time, putting forward the TNF index that can determine the fatness degree of youth, besides, according to the TNF index, gray model is established respectively which can help to improve the predicting precision.Thirdly, we design a setting by ourselves for taking photos and calibration, and fulfill the 3D calibration at any conditions as long as the camera is available. The 2D sizes such as height, width and thickness will be captured through geometry distortion rectifying and perspective & projective image transformation, which accounts for the pivotal problems about motive gray modeling of human bust, waist and hip.Fourthly, we establish a motive gray model that can predict breast girth, waist girth and hip girth exactly with TNF index and width & thickness of corresponding parts, and receive favorable predicting effects. The precision of each model is near to the first level.At last, we also establish a gray model that can calculate other sizes of human body with the characteristic dimensions and receive favorable predicting effects. In addition, it also helps to reduce measured parts and makes body measurement simplified, thus non-contacting-automatic body measurement will be achieved.
