Converter loop is an important part that supports converter body and transmits leaning moments. During the working process, it bears thermal and mechanical loads simultaneously, because of which it tends to crack and even break. In order to study and optimize the design of the equipment, the FEM theories in temperature stress and mechanical stress are analyzed in this thesis. Based on the third boundary condition, the mechanical stress, thermal stress and the coupling stress of a 70t converter loop are calculated and analyzed, and the level of stress concentration is discussed in details. Considering the variations of characteristic, we can draw a conclusion that the mechanical stress is far lower than the thermal stress. The former is almost an half or a third of the latter. Moreover it is found that the mechanical stress and displacement are small, which are not identical when the loop is placed in different positions and directions. That is,when the converter is vertical, the stress is the smallest, and when it is in 90 degrees of angles ,the stress is the largest. In view of those cases, measures can be taken to decrease the temperature of every section to reduce thermal stress and prolong the durability of the loop, which provide beneficial reference data and theoretical guide for the design and operation of the equipment.
