A research on the remote monitoring and fault diagnosis technology of the open CNC system based on the Web has been made in the paper. It is to provide a convenient and practical solution for the manufacturer and the user in lowering the cost in maintenance and operation.Main works are as follows:1) On the basis of the prior research of remote NC service platform based on the Web, the overall scheme, which puts CNC machine tool as a client directly into the B/S three layer, is presented. The fault diagnose system which includes "fault inquiring on the Web", "fault diagnosis on the client", and "remote fault diagnosis" was established.2) The native fault records were analyzed and the classification was made. Based on the technology of data inquiring in internet, the function of the fault inquiring function is realized and the related software was developed.3) The method of fault diagnosis on the client was studied. The Web program of the fault diagnosis on the client was designed and developed by combining the technology in programming language and the dynamic Web page.4) The data collecting technology of the open CNC system was studied and analyzed. The data collecting method of the motion drivers and the transducer is given. It is also applied in the Web program of the fault diagnosis.The typical functions of the system was testified in a test environment. The feasibility and the practicability of the overall scheme and the functions designed were proved which provides experiences for the further research.
