DFM considers the restriction about manufacture areas in the early design stage and guides the designer to choose different material and technics.It also gives different manufacture projects quantitative valuation about manufacture time and cost, comparing and evaluating all design and technics project in a comprehensive way. Manufacturability Evaluation is a main method to study DFM. Recently using feature technique in Manufacturability Evaluation becomes a mainstream. This method through analysising the manufacture feature to find the hard- manufacturable feature or design property .computes the time and cost to produce them and evaluates the manufacturability qualitatively and quantitatively.Manufacturability Evaluation for Sheet-metal system evaluates the design quality in technics and economical efficiency areas. It evaluates the design in roughcast layer, feature layer, part layer.The evaluate target refer to the sheet-metal design handbooks and cost evaluating experience formula summarized by expert before. In the implementation process tools including group technology> feature recognition , STEP files are used here.To realize feature recognition automatically,STEP files is used here for intermediate.Using feature recognition technique feature message is extracted from STEP files, followed feature mapping technique to gain estimate parameter.Of course,feature recognition c an only recognize s imple features.Some c omplex features need add through hand input method. Manufacturability Evaluation for Sheet-metal system being scientific research item,if it combines with enterprise practice it will have more wider use.
