The research on the red mud for the oil-well filling agent was carried out. The results showed that the oil-well filling agent consists of 65% red mud, 19% gelling agent containing aluminum, 7% addition agent and 7% reinforcing agent. In order to control its coagulation time , 2% retarder should be added. The gelling agent is a kind of abio-macromolecule polymer which produces aluminum hydrate around the red mud granule and forms a layer of film . In the aluminum solution ,the trivalence aluminum ion combines with water to form the coordination compound and then the coordination waters hydrolyze into hydroxide ions. The hydroxide ions can join up each other by the hydroxide ion bridges so that the double cores, three cores and multiple cores coordination compounds are formed. The red mud filling agent was put into the test tube and then solidified at 60℃ in a thermostat bath. After 72 hours, the intensity of anti-pressure of the concretion body can be as high as 1.61 MPa and is suitable for the oil-well filling agent. The red mud filling agent absorbs and reacts well with sandstone and pumped polymer of oil well. The intensity of anti-pressure of the concretion body of the red mud filling agent increases along with the solidified time and is stabile after 72 hours. The intensity of the concretion body is unaltered along with the rising of the solidified temperature. But the initial setting time is shortened. The intensity of the concretion body is increased with pH.
