Brass condenser tube is an important basis material in electric power industry. It is a great subject in both industry and research area to develop an As-free brass alloy for condenser tube.A new HSn70-lCB alloy with Ce and B additions in HSn70-l is investigated in present paper. The corrosion property, mechanical properties and microstructure of the previous alloy have been studied by means of galvano-chemistry , XRD,SEM, TEM and tensile test. The main results are as follows:The mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of HSn70-l alloy can be improved with a reasonable amount of Ce and B additions, but excessive amount of Ce and B may results in decrease of mechanical properties. The optimum content of Ce and B is 5:8 in atom tatio. The results of galvano-chemistry test show that when the atom ratio of Ce and B reaches 5:8,the alloy may exhibit the lowest passivating Current density(Icorr) and corrosion rate.Ce and B additions make it easy to occur passivating reaction and to form a homogeneous film, which is tight and well bonded to the matrix, inhibiting dezincification effectively and increasing corrosion resistance. The cold deformed HSn70-lCB alloy can achieve excellent corrosion resistance by annealing is gas shield at 400℃ for 1 hour. With the above results,it can be concluded that HSn70-lAB alloy with As and B additions can be substituted by HSn70-lCB alloy with additions of Ce and B.
