STEP-NC (formalized as ISO 14649) is a new interface (or language) standard specifically aimed at NC programming under establishment by the ISO, which is based on the product model STEP (ISO 10303). Upon completion, it will replace ISO 6983, so called M&G codes used for CNC since 1950s. After the data exchange standards of STEP-NC are analyzed, A Prototype for an Open Intelligent CNCs with the STEP-NC is presented. And the Architecture, the operation scenario, the key technologies and etc of the CNCs are researched in detailed. The Key issues studied and important conclusions deduced in the dissertation are as follows:1. After the data modal of the STEP-NC program is analyzed in detailed;a prototype of CNC system with the STEP-NC is established. And Intelligent functions of the system, such'as: Automatic generation of Tool path, Optimization of nonlinear Working-steps Sequence, and etc, are researched in detailed. Finally, the implementation technology of CNCs is studied.2. The Interpreter of the STEP-NC program is researched in detailed. According to the characters of the STEP-NC structure, the algorithms and the realization methods of the Interpreter are presented.3. The generation and Spine Interpolation technologies of Tool Path are researched deeply. Taken Free-form surface for example, the generation and interpolation process of the Tool Path are discussed in detailed. Lastly, the validity of the generated Tool Path is tested by the simulation.4. The Integration of CNC and CAX system is researched deeply. Then, the integration technology of CNC and CAX system based on STEP-NC/XML is also discussed.
