With the fast development of fancy yarn in textile industry, the designer should work out various of fashionable fancy yarns and at the same time fancy yarn fabric should be produced in a short time. In this situation, numerical simulations of fancy yarn and its fabric become very important. Numerical simulation of fancy yarn can be used in developing new fancy yarn and fabric simulation. In the paper, we propose a new scheme to simulate fancy yarns, which are embedded into fabric simulation.yarn is the basic unit of fabric, the effect of fabric simulation is mainly based on the effect of yarn simulation. Fancy yarn with irregular shape, complicated texture and structure, and multicolor is difficult to model and simulate.Shape, material texture and color are selected as the critical characteristic parameters of fancy yarn. on the basis of the three parameters, a new scheme for numerical simulation of fancy yarn is put forward. Segments of lower degree Bezier curves connect one after another to construct the yarn shape. A classic illumination model in the form of illumination factor template and random noise function are adopted to represent material texture in and around the shape contour. Fancy yarn is colored with a single color or gradation colors in HLS(Hue, Luminance, Saturation, HLS)color model.Bezier curve and B-Spline curve, illumination model and illumination factor template, color models and their transformations are studied in the paper. And the specific technical points, programming frame and fancy yarn database are presented in Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 programming language environment. Simulation results on some types of common and fashionable fancy yarns show that the proposed scheme can render realistic appearance of fancy yarn effectively.
