The study involved polarity improvement of SEBS by blending with TPU so as to extend application scope of SEBS in practical use. Various characterization methods were adopted to investigate rheological property and cryogenic property and microstructure of the blends of SEBS/TPU. Factors influencing property of the blends such as compatilizer and TPU and the amount of paraffin were discussed. The optimal processing conditions for the blending were also determined. The rheological results of SEBS and TPU by means of high pressure capillary indicates that SEBS is non-Newton fluid, the viscosity decreases when the shear rate increases. The paraffined SEBS has excellent thermal flow stability and is not sensitive to temperature, but TPU is very sensitive to temperature. DSC and DTMA were used to investigate the cryogenic property and compatibility of SEBS/TPU blends. The DCS analysis shows that the Tg of EB segment of SEBS drops with the increase of the percentage of the paraffin, but when the percentage reaches 100%, the Tg is maintained at about -64℃. The DCS analysis also shows that the Tg of SEBS after being blended increases. At 15% of SEBS-g-MAH the increase is 3℃ and phase transition occurs. The DTMA results indicate that when TPU content is 150% wt (as to SEBS), the peaks of two tan 8 are near, the compatibility of the blends is much better. The microstructure were studied by means of SEM, the results indicate that when...
