After the oil gas pipeline has been paved, the concerned department of the oil field must have a clear idea on the location of the pipeline, so that to make an effective management on the pipeline. Nowadays, the main methods to check the location of the pipeline used in the oil field are pipeline detector, terra explore radar, GPS receiver, full station instrument and so on, such special tools. But all these methods have practical problems such as low setting accuracy, week anti-jamming, great workload, and high cost. This paper put forward a new method of location checking, which based on inertia apparatus. There is no signal transmission between equipment inside and outside during the checking process, which avoid the outside environment interference and enhance the reliability of the system, the auto-checking of the equipment in the pipeline, which also need no manual intervention to reduce the workload and checking cost.The design scenario of the pipeline location checking system include following several parts: the arithmetic research of the pipeline location checking system (construction of the mathematics platform), data collection part (data collection card), data processing part (protract of the pipeline axes). The paper focus on these three parts, discuss the design of the pipeline location checking system in detail. The data collection card based on the inertia apparatus as the detector head, including the three-dimensional acceleration sensor, which speed the rate of the checking equipment in the pipeline, and the three-dimensional gyroscope, which used to check the angle change in the pipeline. During the function of the equipment, the data are put in the FLASH of the data collection card. After the data collection finished, it send to the PC through RS232 serial port. It gets the relatively high acceleration of the equipment, basing on the quaternion equation of the mathematics platform, and through the calculation of the angle changing and the acceleration sensor send-out.
