The problem of ecological environment and ecosystem health is becoming a critical issue concerned by world society. So assessment of ecosystem health has attracted more and more attention. As a new method of analyzing ecosystem, it has gradually become a new target of ecosystem management. Assessment of ecosystem health is the base for establishment of scientific strategies of ecological protection. It can play an important leading role in improving sustainable management level and environment management level. Remote sensing can be used in ecosystem research, especially in river basin or region scale. RS can provide a great deal of ground information for ecosystem research rapidly, impersonally and repeatedly. It is an important tool in macro-ecosystem researching. The investigation object of this paper is Daninghe river watershed in the three gorges reservoir. Based on the theories of the ecosystem health and the model of pressure-state-response model built by the Organization for Economic Co-operation, the indicators system for ecosystem health assessment of Daninghe river watershed was established after considered watershed' s land resource, population, exploitation, Society-Economy and the vegetation condition. The paper adopt some data of Remote Sensing with other auxiliary data to distil many kind of information such as: land use/land cover, the boundary of small watershed, biologic diversity, index of nature structure, initial productivity of watershed, population pressure index of watershed, intensity of soil and water erosion. The unit of assessment is small watershed. In the paper, the individual index and comprehensive index are evaluated to find out the distribution rule of ecosystem health of Daninghe river watershed. The result indicates the condition of ecosystem health in Daninghe river watershed has vertical distribution. The rising of the altitude, the degree of ecosystem health increase on the whole. But the worst health...
