Along with the development of oil reconnaissance and exploration industry in China, especially the booming industry of marine oil reconnaissance and exploration, the stratum boring situation becomes more and more complex, which makes a higher demand for oil-well cement additives. During the cementing operation, if the fluid loss rate of slurry is out of control, the thickening time and rheologic property of slurry will not accord with the original requirement, and make a contaminative damage to oil zone more or less. In the worse situation, it can lead to the failure of cementing operation. Water soluble polymer is a kind of widest used oil well cement fluid loss additive. Its main disadvantages are the poor salt resistance and the tendency of invalidation at a high temperature.According to the demand of oil well cement fluid loss additive for polymer property, designing for the molecule structure, and selecting proper monomer and initiator system. Using acrylamide(AM) and crylic acid(AA) firstly, employ oxidation-deoxidation initiator system and the method of water solution free radical copolymerization to synthesize a kind of copolymer, researching on the factor influencing the property of this copolymer, and evaluating the apparent viscosity, API fluid loss rate and fluidity of the product. Among all the synthesized samples, the best can reduce the fluid lose rate to 325 mL, however, it can not meet the present requirement of slurry fluid loss rate in cementing construction. Using acrylamide(AM) and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid(AMPS) as monomer, applying the method of water solution free radical copolymerization, the outcome is a kind of copolymer. Researching on three factors(monomer ratio, pH value, concentration of initiator) for convertion and intrinsic viscosity, it can conclude that in the react system, the suitable pH is around 7, the proper mass ratio of AMPS/AM is between 1/6~1/8, and the advisable concentration of initiator is between 0.4%~0.7%.
