This paper outlined in detail the domestic and foreign technological development on the metallurgy of vanadium extracting, and elaborated the feasibility and significance of withdrawing the vanadium from the steel slag containing high vanadium which is produced by the molten iron contained the vanadium in Panzhihua Iron & Steel Co.. It summarized comprehensively a series of research work on the fuse and reduction of the steel slag containing high vanadium.This topic put forwards the new craft of extracting the vanadium after steel-making in terms of flaw within extracting the vanadium with converter, and deeply researched the essential technology- extracting the high vanadium pig iron from the high vanadium steel slag. It calculated the equilibrium distribution propotion Lv of V between steel and slag,and the activity coefficientγV2O5 of V2O5 in slag,by thermodynamics researching on reduction of Vanadium in high V steel slag,and discussed the influence of the basicity and content of FetO,V2O5 in slag on Lv andγV2O5 and confirmed that value ofγV2O5 is within 10-1~10-9,and studied the theory of reduction kinetics between steel slag containing V and molten iron saturated C,deduced the kinetics model and surficial activity energy of (V2O5)reduction the surficial activity energy is 23.21kj.mol-1,dispersed quality transfer of V in molten iron constrains the reductive action which can easily occur when the basicity of slag is within 0.8~1.5 at 1550°C,when the basicity is about 1.0,the reduction effecticeness of V2O5 is the best,which will be up to over 98%.We not only carried out the thermo-simulation test molten reduction of the high vanadium steel in the 250kVA submerged-arc furance,but half-industry test on extracting the high vanadium pig iron through high vanadium steel slag in the 3200kVA large-scale submerged-arc furance.The result indicated that the high vanadium pig iron, containing the V with 6%~8%,is produced after molten reduction of steel slag which contains V2O5 within 3%~5%,and the reduction ratio of V2O5 in steel slag is up to 96.32%,the recovery ratio of V is 88.80%,the electricity consumption is 1,200~1400 kWh/(t steel slag).
