The process for synthesis of flame retardant ODOPB was analyzed in this paper.Molecular structure of ODOPB was further confirmed by FT-IR, UV and the mode ofthermal degradation of ODOPB was evaluated by thermal analysis (DSC, TG). Theresults showed that ODOPB had high thermal stability and yield.The element P was brought into the molecular structure of epoxy resin by thereaction of epoxy resin with DOPO and ODOPB separately. The reaction of DOPO andepoxy resin was investigated by titration of epoxy and FTIR. The dynamic parameterof DOPO and epoxy resin system was investigated by DTA. The results demonstratedthat the optimal synthesis conditions are 120℃, 90min, 15wt.%catalyzer and theapparent activation energy E is 96.42kJ/mol and the order of reaction n is 0.74 whenDOPO reacted with E-20 epoxy resin; the optimal synthesis conditions are120℃,120min,20wt.%catalyzer and the apparent activation energy E is 298.5kJ/moland the order of reaction n is 0.97 when DOPO reacted with O-cresol formaldehydenovolac epoxy resin.The reaction of ODOPB and epoxy resin was investigated by titration of epoxyand thermal analysis. It was showed that E-20 is apt to crosslink with ODOPB andO-cresol formaldehyde novolac epoxy resin intercoursed with ODOPB directly.P-containing epoxy resin could be obtained when ODOPB reacted with E-51 at 160℃for 60min and the apparent activation energy E is 24kJ/mol and the order of reaction nis 0.97 by DTA analytical method.Based on electron-seal application, P-containing epoxy resin system for roomtemperature curing was designed. The effect of ODOPB on the seal-material wasevaluated by using LOI, HB, TG, IR, XRD with regard to cure process, combustionmechanism and flame-retardant performance of the material. The results showed thatthe curing apparent activation energy E is 66.73kJ/mol and the order of reaction n is0.90. ODOPB could enhance the fire-retardancy, the more, the better. The LOI and theyield of solid char residue could reach 32.8 and 34.2% at 600℃respectively, its charyield is 16.2% at 600℃. It also showed that ODOPB affected the tensilestrength,elongation at break and impact strengthWhile ODOPB had little influence onthe rigidity. P-containing seal-material has excellent insulation.
