Well known to industrial and academic research, a variety of undesirable mechanical vibrations or oscillations refer to as chatter could occur in plate rolling processes. As the need for low-cost and high-quality produces increases of chatter becomes an increasing important task in design and operation in rolling mills worldwide, so the mechanical behavior of plate rolling mill in rolling process is studied in this paper, take 4200 rolling mill for example, some developments are made in the work:1. A dynamical model on vertical vibration system of six degree freedom for the steel plate rolling mill in damping condition is established, and the dynamic analysis and simulation is carried on by Matlab software, then discuses the response of vibration system under seven situations of rolling power which is altered to time, the influence factors to self-excited vertical vibration of plate rolling mills is obtained. So the paper can provides a reliable theory basis for plate rolling mills to avoid self-excited vertical vibration in rolling process.2. A three dimension FEM model of frame of the steel plate rolling mill is established by ANSYS software, through the calculation and analysis, the most deformation in cross direction and lengthways of frame is obtained, the place of the most dangerous point and distribution of deformation and stress is found out.3. The optimum design method is applied to steel plate rolling mill's structure designing in this paper. The mathematics model is given that regards the least base bounce value as aim function, which includes nine design variables and twenty-nine bind conditions, then the best scheme is got by using the Optimization Toolbox in Matlab software.4. Vibration analysis of nonlinear parametrically and self-excited 4-h plate rolling system of two degrees of freedom is carried out. Through the analysis obtains the vibration state of the system while the frequencies of parametrical excitation besides the natural frequencies, and discusses the stability of this vibration system.In the end of paper, the author give a forecasting to the development direction of vibration research of plate rolling mill.
