With the diminution of fresh water resource and focusing on the environmental protection, flocculants played more and more important roles all over the world. It is well known that the use of flocculants can improve the efficiency of solid/liquid separation unit operations in a wide range of industrial applications. Water-soluble polyacrylamide can be used as efficient flocculants for many disperse systems such as water treatment, mineral processing, paper-making and other fields.It is desirable to synthesize the hydrophobic polymeric flocculants with lignin charges to improve the flocculation performance of domestic flocculants. In this paper, we developed lignin polyacrylamide flocculants for water treatment. Through radical copolymerization in water solution, the molecular weight of polyacrylamide is up to 2.632×10~6.The factors that influence the polymerization such as pH, concentration of initiator, concentration of monomer, temperature of initiation and concentration of lignin were particularly investigated. By orthogonal experimental design, the optimum technical parameters in acryl amide polymerization were confirmed. The optimum reaction conditions were obtained by orthogonal experiment as follows monomer is 0.005[M], reaction temperature is 40℃,mass ratio between AM and lignin is 4 : 1, mass ratio between water and lignin is 50 : 1, and the time of reaction is 48h.The result of the test of the production's structure shows that there are the frameworks by using the FTIR and SEM techniques. It proves the graft polymeric reaction improves the products' ability on flocculation. Used the production in the process of chemical compound waste liquid and ascertained the best flocculate techniques by examining the factors of flocculation process. Compare the ability of flocculation with the same kind of products; give expressions of the good flocculate property to the production, providing the theory and practical basis for the practical use of the production that was synthesized with Acryl amide and lignin as the flocculants.The prepared products are evaluated by beaker flocculating and settling test through dealing with wastewater which by chemosynthesized. The spectrophotometer is used to measure the penetrability of the upper processed water at the wavelength of 400 nm. On the basis of the water quality, the influence on flocculating effect of the macro-molecular chain structure and its form, the flocculating mechanism of these products are discussed and analyzed detailedly.The author also hopes this paper can provide some reference to the macro-molecular design and practical application.
