In this paper, the method of preparing a novel biocide using poly quaternary ammonium salt grafted by nylon and cation exchange resin was studied. Treated by activating agent, the nylon and cation exchange resin were grafted with organic functional groups, then they reacted with high-molecular-weight polyethylenimine (PEI) in the organic solvent, therefore PEI was grafted covalently on the surface of nylon and cation exchange resin. Finally, modified by the alkyl halide such as bromohexane and iodomethane, the PEI grafted on the surface of nylon and cation exchange resin were converted to high-molecular-weight antimicrobial quaternary ammonium salts, and the novel biocide were prepared. The antimicrobial groups were grafted on the surface of nylon and cation exchange resin by covalent bonds.The technics of preparation of biocide has been optimized in choosing activating agent and nylon and cation exchange resin in this paper. And the results indicate that the nylon activated by 4-Bromobutane chloride was grafted with high-molecular-weight polyethylenimine (PEI) in the organic solvent, therefore PEI was grafted covalently on the surface of nylon. Finally, modified by the alkyl halide such as bromohexane and iodomethane, the PEI grafted on the surface of nylon . were converted to high-molecular-weight antimicrobial quaternary ammonium salts and the novel biocide were prepared. The prepared process was ratio of activating agent / nylon 2: 5, 1,4-dioxane as the reaction solvent, obtained by activating treatment at 45℃for 12h. IR analysis and testing of stabilization of the novel biocide testifies that the high-molecular-weight antimicrobial groups were grafted successfully on the surface of nylon. The prepared process of a novel biocide using poly quaternary ammonium salt grafted cation exchange resin was 30% H2SO4, 1,4-dioxane as the swelling agent, obtained by activating treatment for 8h.The bactericidal capabilities of the product prepared according to optimal conditions were evaluated, and to typical microorganisms such as Escherichia. Coli., Staphylococcus.aureus, Bacillus subtilis, A.niger, n. chlorella and spirulina are obvious. And the different macromolecule biocide concentration, reaction time and stabilization of the novel biocide were also researched in this paper.In this paper, the application of the novel biocide was also studied. In order to test the practical biocidal capabilities of the novel biocide in circulating cooling water treatment, a biocidal test applying to the practical cooling water or river sample was carried out. The results of bactericidal efficiency of biocide using poly quaternary ammonium salt grafted by nylon show that typical microorganisms such as heterotrophic bacteria, ammonifying bacteria and denitrifying bacteria were sterilized above 90% and epiphyte was sterilized above 85% in circulating cooling water after 40 min. And heterotrophic bacteria, ammonifying bacteria, iron bacteria, sulfate reducting bacteria, sulfate reducting bacteria, nitrifier, nitrococcus and denitrifyimg bacteria were sterilized above 90% and epiphyte was sterilized above 86% in river after 40 min. The results of bactericidal efficiency of biocide using poly quaternary ammonium salt grafted by cation exchange resin show that typical microorganisms were sterilized above 90% in circulating coolingwater and river after 40 min.
