Recently, Material with photo-electronic functional property has become frontfields and highlights in many scientific fields, such as biological detection, anti-bogusbrand, fluorescence detection, OLED (organic light-emitting device). Organometalliccomplexes have been intensively studied throughout the world since they both have theattractive properties of organic compounds, such as high quantum efficiency, and ofinorganic compound, such as higher environmental stability.A series of ligands and zinc complexes with 2-(2-Hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazolegroup was designed and synthesized from molecule design point of view. Then weaimed to make functional modifications of these compounds. An ethylic group wasadded to 2-(2-Hydroxyphenyl) benzimidazole in order to reduce energy loss causedfrom the vibration of N-H bond. Carbazolyl group which has excellent hole-transportingability was added to 2-(2-Hydroxyphenyl) benzimidazole with a hexylic group, in orderto improve the corresponding ability of ligands and complexes. All the ligands and complexes were characterized by melting point, elementanalysis, infrared spectrum, mass spectrum and nuclear magnetic resonance. Simulatedby Gaussian software, HOMO and LUMO were obtained. Ultraviolet spectrum andfluorescence spectrum were used to investigate the photoluminescence (PL) property. The results show that emitting peaks of all complexes shift blue compared with ligands, furthermore, PL intensities of complexes were stronger than those of ligands. The bluelight emission from ligands and complexes were demonstrated. Their excellent PLperformance shows the potential application as EL materials.
