The rich ongoing research of the design and synthesis of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) and their potential applications such as catalyses, separation, gas storage, optoelectronics, chemical sensors and membranes is a testament that lively interest has beenevoked in supramolecule chemistry and crystal engineer of MOFs.N-donor ligands have strong coordination ability and are widly used in designing andconstructing complexes. The employment of secondary organic ligands and judicious changeof ligands become an effective approach to obtain novel topologies. In this paper, by thediffusion, solution and solvothermal methods, nine complexes based on benzimidazole and1,4-bis(benzoimdazo-1-yl)benzene with transition metal ions have been constructed.2,4,6-trimethylbenzoic acid,2,3,5,6-tetrabromoterephthalic acid and5-(3-(tetrazol-5-yl)phenyl) isophthalic acid were chosen as coligands. Complexes were characterized bysingle-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses, IR, elemental analyses and thermal analyses. Thefamulas of the complexes are as follows:[Ni(BIM)2(TMBA)2]n(1)[Co(BIM)2(TMBA)2]n(2)[Cu(BIM)2(TBTA)]n(3)[Cu3(BIM)2(TBTA)2(OH)2(H2O)2]n(4){[Co(CH3OH)4(H2O)2]·(TBTA)·2H2O·2(H2TBTA)}n(5){[Ni(CH3OH)4(H2O)2]·(TBTA)·2(H2O)·2(H2TBTA)}n(6)[Cd(BBIMB)(TPTA)(H2O)2]n(7)[Cu(BBIMB)(TPTA)]n(8){[Cu3(BBIMB)3(TPIA)2(H2O)]·H2O}n(9) Complexes1and2are zerodimensional, which extended to be a three-dimensionalstructure by Van der Waals force. Complex3is one-dimensional chain. Complex4istwo-dimensional network with helical channels. Complexes5and6are zerodimensional, which generate to three-dimensional structure by H-bonding interaction. Complexes7and8are two-dimensional layer. Complex9is three-dimensional network.
