The methods for SWNTs preparation by electric arc are investagated, mainly usingmixed catalyst (Tb/Ni and Y/Ni).The important influencing factors for SWNTssynthesis using electric arc are studied, such as ratio of catalyst, current intensity for arc,presure of noble gas and catalysts variety. First in the condition of using Tb/Ni ascatalyst, by orthogonal test of two factor-three level, the influecing factors for synthesisare astablished. The first factor is ratio of catalyst, the second is electric intensity. Fixingthe experiment conditions mentioned above ,only using Y/Ni instead of Tb/Ni, themaximun synthesis conditions are greatly changed. This conclusion can be verified byorthogonal test. Addition of FeS (as growth substance) can influences the quality ofSWTNs. The qualitative and quantitative analysis of produced SWTNs can be carriedout by characteristic absorb peaks and peak-area of SWTNs achieved fromUV-VIS-NIR.Because many impurities exist in raw SWNTs, raw products must be purified. Theexperiments indicate that the better results can be obtained by combining phisical angchemical means. If chemical oxdition way is selected, the ideal catalyst is K2S2O8. Thepurified samples can be characterized by raman spectroscopy.
