Single walled carbon nanotubes(SWNTs) were prepared by electric arc. In this process, TbNi2 functioned as catalyst and FeS was fueling agent. High-temperature bake, mild oxidation, high-speed centrifugal method was used to purifify SWNTs.We obtained high purity SWNTs and connected with the carboxyl, used SEM, IR, UV-vis-NIR to characterize SWNTs and prepared the water-soluble and oil-soluble SWNTs.Through condensation reaction between carboxyl and amino, we made ammonium sulfamate and SWNTs link in accordance with covalent bone. After SWNTs were modified, it had relatively large solubility and high dispersion in water. In addition, this approach did not change the electronic structures of SWNTs.The use of ion-association extraction of TOMACl made SWNTs extraction to organic solvents. Under alkaline conditions, SWNTs contained carboxyl and cation TOMACL formed ion-pair through electrostatic. This made SWNTs well soluble in organic solvents. We used UV-vis-NIR to explore affecting factors of the ion-association extraction.
