The magnetic targeting drug carriers in magnetic targeting drug delivery system (MTDDS)were studied.Firstly, Co ferrite nanoparticles were prepared with the method of solid-state reaction.Magnetic chitosan microspheres with Co ferrite as the core were achieved by chemicalcrosslink method using ferrite nanopartictes and chitosan. The microstructure andproperties were characterized by IR, SEM, XRD, TG-DSC, TEM and VSM. The resultsindicated that symmetrical size distributing Co ferrite nanoparticles with small diameterand strong magnetism were prepared. The megnetic chitosan microspheres had good shape,narrow size distribution and good magnetism.Secondly, EDTA was chosen to decorate the surface of the megnetic chitosan microsphereswith chemical method and biological method respectively. The testing results showed thata respectable sum of carboxyl was linked to the surface, and the microspheres maintainedtheir good shape and enough magnetism.Thirdly, the absorption capacity of the pre-and after decorated microspheres were studiedsetting Cu2+, Ni2+ and Co2+as the model ions. The results showed that the absorptioncapacity of the megnetic chitosan microspheres was evidently improved by EDTAdecorating.
