Electrophoretic image displays (EPID), owing to advantages of both paper and electronic displays, which has become a hot research point in whole world, is a kind of promising displays. The microencapsulated displays (MC-EPID) draws the most attention, which is a category of EPID.The paper described the preparation of the modified electrophoretic and microcapsule, which is two most important portions of MC-EPID. Some influential factors of the experiment have also been discussed.Polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)/TiO2 composite particles are synthesized by in situ polymerizing in the present of TiO2 both in water and ethanol. Much larger content of the PMMA in the composite particles could be achieved when poly vinyl pyrrolidone is used to TiO2 for pre-modificatio. It is confirmed that there are certain bonds built between the polymer and TiO2. Finally, the largest content of polymer in the particles is about 50%.The reaction condition of encapsulation by in situ polymerization has been studied. A more stable latex system is achieved by the compound of two kinds of surfactants, which leads to the preparation of microcapsule with nice surface morphology. It is possible to improve the quality of and control the size of the microcapsules by changing ratio of the two surfactants, which decides the HLB, in the system. The best condition for microcapsule preparation is found by researching the stirring rate and HLB, which influents the quality of the microcapsule deeply.
