Bulk Metallic Glasses (BMGs) have been drawing increasing attention in recent years due to their scientific and engineering significance. A great deal of effort in this area has been devoted to developing BMGs in different alloy systems. In this paper, the synthesis of new Ni-based metallic glass is introduced. DSC, XRD and SEM are used in the research of Ni-Nb, Ni-Nb-Zr, Ni-Nb-Zr-Co and Ni-Nb-Zr-Co-Sn alloy systems. The thermal stability and glass transition of these alloy systems are also investigated. The Ni60.25Nb39.75 BMG with excellent thermal stability, high hardness and fracture strength with high corrosion resistance was synthesized. The effect of the addition of Ti, Co and Zr in Ni-Nb binary system is investigated. The best glass former in Ni-based ternary system is Ni62Nb33Zr5. The best glass forming alloys with critical diameter up to 3 mm were discovered using a strategy for catching the best glass-forming alloys based on relative GFA of alloys. The Ni62Nb33Zr5 alloy exhibits glass transition temperature Tg of 877 K, supercooled liquid regionΔTx of 40K, compressive strength of about 3GPa, plastic strain of about 1%. Based on the best glass former Ni62Nb33Zr5, the effect of the forth element on GFA in Ni-Nb-Zr-X (X=Ti, Ta, Fe, Cu, Co, V, Y, Mo, Sn, Al, Si) BMG system has been investigated. The best GFA is found to be 3.5 mm rod for the Ni57Nb33Zr5Co5 BMG alloy. This alloy exhibits high Tg of 866 K, supercooled liquid regionΔTx of 45 K, compressive fracture strength of 2.9 GPa, 1 % compressive plasticity, and excellent corrosion resistance as compared to stainless steel. In addition, Ni57Co5(Nb33/38Zr5/38)38-xSnx (x= 2, 3, 5 at.%) alloys with large supercooled liquid region up to 85 K is obtained. The combination of high thermal stability, high strength with compressive plasticity and excellent corrosion resistance enables these alloys to have potential industrial applications.
