As one high-efficiency means, the abrasive flow machining is used extensively for finishing and burring of some small, abnormal parts. Nowadays, besides the single winding polishing process, the comparatively mature used abrasive flow machining home and abroad are mainly the horizontal type of planetary polishing process and the bowl type of vibration polishing process. The process study of those processing method are very mature, and they are mostly theorized. With the development of the society and technology and the further application of abrasive finishing technology, the demand for high quality surface of the parts should be met. In order to further improve product quality and productive efficiency, decrease the process costs, economize the cost of the labor and improve the labor condition, we are urgently demanded to put forward for new technologies and processes.Aiming at the mature used planetary polishing process and the vibration polishing process nowadays in this paper, it analysis the working principle and obtains the uniform starting points: in some way to make the abrasive particles and work-piece in rollers obtain complicated motion trace, so as to make the abrasive particles with work-piece generate a large grade collisions, squeeze and trace grinding, for better to realize burr-removing, chamfering and surface finish machining, for more better improve the surface quality of the work-piece. With this as basic point, a new polishing method between planetary polishing process and vibration polishing process is developed.The study of new type of polishing machine uses the typical planetary gear mechanism and linkage mechanism. In the linkage mechanism, the traces of every point in the connecting rod are various shape curves, called as coupler curves. Its shapes transform with the change of components' relative length. So we can obtain various kinds of coupler curves. Using those coupler curves can satisfy different kinds of design demands. In theory, using the MAPLE to make dynamical analysis with the design plan, then, according to the working demands, confirm its driving functional curve. In experiment, preliminary determining the geometric parameters of the equipment, and according to the results, correcting the mechanism parameters to prepare for the latter establishing of a kinematical model. Then, based on the former kinematical model, making analysis of kinematics and dynamics, and finally confirm the design parameters of the new type of polishing machine.After assembling the new type of polishing machine, it should be assessed about its working performance. Work-piece surface roughness is an mainly important technical index in evaluating the ground quality of belt grinding. The measurement and analysis of work-piece surface roughness can directly reflects the abrasive machining effects of the equipment. According to the comparative experiments between the new equipment and the FY-VII type of planetary polishing machine developed by polishing technical institute of tianjin polytechnic university, verifying the success of our research, it is of great significance to the development and advance of abrasive flow machining technology.
