Vibratory stress relief (VSR), as a method of relieving residual stress, has been widely used in the ferrous metal fields for its advantages of less energy consumption, saving time, remarkable effects, and no pollution, ect. With the Aluminum alloy and other nonferrous metals put into use in large amount, it's been extremely urgent to know that whether the VSR technology can be applied to relieve the residual stress of nonferrous metal.1,Based on the others' research results and in the aspect of strain-stress mechanism and micromechanics, this paper has set forth the essence of Aluminum alloy thick-plates'VSR technology, which can be dealt like this: at the macroscopically level, the VSR is kind of stress slack as resulting from plastic deformation; on the microscopically level, it behaves as the process of dislocation moving the grain refinement, and improvement of mechanical performances.2,Choices principle of several basic parameters for the VSR of Aluminum alloy thick-plates has been discussed, from which we can conclude that with the sub-Resonance frequency, the stress relief will take on effective when the superposed value of dynamic stress and residual stress exceeds the value which is needed for the force of micro-plastic deformation in the material and less than the lasting limit of asymmetric cycling; Microscopically the prerequisite for dramatical decrease in the residual stress is that the superposed value of dynamic stress and residual stress exceeds that of the elastic limit of the material.3,According to the special requirement and the condition of the laboratory, a set of VSR for Aluminum alloy thick-plates system has been designed by virtue of Electric Vibrator. The VSR system adopt the PC control, with the help of specific signal resource, the process of stress relief is made automatic.4,Then, the VSR of Aluminum alloy thick-plates test proceed with different samples are excited by Electric Vibrator and Mechanical shaker respectively. The expectation has been done with combination of stress relief curve and hole-Drilling measuring residual stress. Results show that VSR technology can bring notable effects on nonferrous metals. The off-line analyses and Metallographic observation of the samples also validate the VSR mechanism clarified in the first foint.At last, the paper summarizes the whole research and put forward suggestions for the research in future.
