In this dissertation, a series of binucler transition metal phthalocyanine complexes M2PC2. M2Pc2Hc, M2Nc2 (M = Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II)) were synthesized by a solid phase fusion method, and others M2Pc2C, M2Pc2HcC, M2Pc2HnC(M = Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II)) were synthesized by microwave process. All the phthalocyanine complexes were characterized by element analysis, UV-Vis absorption, Infrared spectra and TGA analysis. The effect on lithium/thionyl chloride battery (Li/SOCl2) had been investigated under constant resistance using phthalocyanines as electrocatalyst.The discharge voltage, discharge time and battery capacity, of Li/SOCl2 battery containing phthalocyanine are investigated, and the results show that the relationship of catalytic activity and center metal ion are as follows: Fe2+>Co2+>Mn2+>Ni2+>Cu2+. Because the redox reactions of phthalocyanine containing Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II) relate to not only phthalocyanine ring ,but also metal ions; the others occur mainly in the phthalocyanine ring. The catalytic feature is confirmed by the cyclic voltammetry also.The catalytic activity of binuclear metal phthalocyanine is compared with that of mononuclear phthalocyanine. It is found that the conjugated system of phthalocyanines increased can improve their catalytic activity. A new perspective on the catalytic mechanism of the reduction of thionyl chloride by binuclear phthalocyanine compounds is brought forward. The catalytic activity is attributed to the adduct of phthalocyanine compounds and thionyl chloride.
