This is an economical process without pollution of manufacturing cellulose fiber with carbamate. The spinning process is a new method of producing cellulose fiber on the basis of synthesizing cellulose carbamate. Comparing with the cellulose xanthate of the viscose process, the requirement with pulp of this method is lower and the product without poison is easier to conduct, transport and store. It is pretty important to synthesize a certain degree of substitution cellulose carbamate in manufacturing cellulose carbamate, it decides the degree of after-dissolution and spinning. The cellulose pulp is activated treatment with sodium hydroxide as activator in this paper. We controlled the DP between 300 and 400.We mainly used the reaction between cellulose activation and excess urea in xylene to yield cellulose carbamate,We tested the DP and carbonaceous of the product, and discussed the optimum reaction condition of this esterification reaction with viscosimeter and Kjeldahl Nitrogen element analyzer. We comprehensively and systematically studied the changes of the structures and properties of cellulose in the process of cellulose activation and reaction by means of various techniques, including FTIR, WAXD, DSC and NMR. The research on FTIR shows that there is a strong esterification absorption peak at about 1700 cm-1, which proves that the cellulose has esterfication activation with urea. Seen from the 13 C-NMR spectrum of the cellulose carbamate, there occurs a new NMR peak atδc=159ppm, which further proves the formation of the cellulose carbamate. The WAXD shows that the crystal structure of the product was changed. The DSC shows that the disintegrating temperature of cellulose carbamate is lower than cellulose.
