EPDM/PP thermoplastic elastomer(TPE) was prepared by dynamic vulcanization.The effects of blend ratio,plasticizer,curing system and the fillers on properties of EPDM/PP blends were studied.The mechanical and theological properties,oil resistance of EPDM/PP blends were characterized;Then, nano-EPDM/PP composites were prepared by twin screw extruder with OMMT,the desired content,best sequence and reinforcing effect in three curing system were explored,X-ray diffraction,TGA,TEM were use to characterize the structures and properties of nano-EPDM/PP composites.The results showed that with the content of PP increased,hardness and strength of composites enhanced,oil resistance and processing performance raised,but the resilience reduced;Plasticized system had a great affect on properties of EPDM/PP composites,the white oil had a better effect than the other plasticizers;Curing system was very important to thermoplastic vulcanizate,the result showed that the A composite curing system showed a good performance;Compared white carbon black, calcium carbonate,talc and kaolin,the filling effect of white carbon black was best.Nano-EPDM/PP composites was successfully prepared by melt extrusion method with OMMT,the desired content,best sequence and reinforcing effect in three curing system were investigated.Transmission electron microscopy(TEM) measurement results showed exfoliation and intercalated nanocomposites prepared.Montmorillonite lamellar dispersion in resin matrix uniform in the size of below 10 nm,X-ray diffraction testing had confirmed this view;studies of combination properties indicated that OMMT had a good performance on composites.Mechanical properties rose with the increase of the OMMT content,When OMMT amount up to only 3phr, tensile strength reached 5.1 MPa,24.4%increased comparing to conventional TPV.The oil resistance had greatly improvement,swelling index fell to 0.9 from 1.25,a decrease of 38.9%.Melt and crystallization temperature reduced with the addition of plasticizer,but appreciably influence with OMMT;TGA testing indicated that OMMT was beneficial to the thermal stability of EPDM/PP-TPV.
