The paper is devoted to investigate the thermal decomposition mechanism of TEGDN gun propellant and the influence of different catalysts on its combustion properties. The thermal decomposition of TEGDN gun propellant was investigated by TG/DSC-QMS-FTIR techniques.and the kinetic parameters were calculated by non-linear regression.First of all,the influences of the crucible with lid or not and the quantity of it on TEGDN gun propellant combustion properties were investigated.The results showed that the optimum experimental conditions for TEGDN gun propellan were in closed crucibles made from aluminium with a pinhole in the cap.and 2mg dose.Secondly,the thermal decomposition mechanism of TEGDN gun propellant was in vestigated under the optimum experimental conditions.The results showed that the decomposition process of TEGDN gun propellan could be described by(?). Thefirst step: activation energy was 101KJ/mol, the pre-exponential factor logA(S-1) was 9.1,reaction order was 1.2, logKcat was 1.0,the main productions were CO2,H2O,HCN and CH2O.The second step: activation energy was 255KJ/mol,the pre-exponential factorlogA(S-1) was 26.7,reaction order was 4.3,logKcat was 0.3,the main productions wereH2O,CO2,HCN,NO2,NO and CH2O.Finally, the influences of different catalysts on TEGDN gun propellan combustion properties were investigated.The results showed that the catalytic action of Manganese oxalate was the most significant, it made the mass loss percentage increased,the activation energy lowered and the concentration of gas products increased.Nickel Ferrite and cupric chromate also had catalytic action,Nickel Ferrite made the heat of decomposition released increased and the activation energy lowered although without effect on the mass loss percentage. Cupric chromate increaced the mass loss percentage, lowered the activation energy.Bismuth citrate reduced the heat of decomposition released and increaced the activation energy,so it had little catalytic action.
