Artillery propellants can be consisted of single-based propellant, double-based propellant and three-based propellant. And double-based propellants were commonly covered with NG/NC propellant and TEGDN/NC propellant. The emphasis of this paper is focusing on the structure, properties and their mutual relationship of NG/NC propellant, TEGDN/NC propellant as well as their each constituent. It is extremely significant to understand the propellants in detail and conduct the practical production. The components of NG/NC propellant and TEGDN/NC propellant include cellulose nitrate (nitrocellulose, NC), glycerol trinitrate (nitroglycerin, NG), triethylene glycol dinitrate (nitrated triethylenealcohol, TEGDN) and N, N-dimethyl diphenyl urea, etc.In this paper, the structure and properties of NC, NG, TEGDN, NG/NC propellant and TEGDN/NC propellant in the solution was studied by solution1H-NMR and13C-NMR; and the solid13C-NMR was used to characterize the structure and properties of them in the solid state. The thermal proformances of them were also characterized by TG-DTG and DSC. Combined with the above results, the relationship of structures and properties was preliminary dicussed. It is found that the1H-NMR Spectra of NG in deuterated chloroform and D2O solvents have subtle and unusual differences. Due to the different relative amount of the two components, the1H-NMR spectra of NG-D2O and TEGDN-D2O systems also showed some differences. Therefore, it can be concluded that the solvents have an impact on molecules conformation of NG and the factors of solvents, such as the body susceptibility and hydrogen bond, also have some impacts on the1H-NMR.Through the use of TG-DTG and DSC analyses, the thermal decomposition processes of NG/NC propellant, TEGDN/NC propellant and their components were studied. According to the changes of volatile temperature of NG, it can be inferred that the NC and NG in propellants may not be a simple mixed style but formed a solid solution structure.By means of the solid13C-NMR of NG/NC propellant and its components (NC, NG, N, N-dimethyl diphenyl urea), it can be concluded that there is some interaction between NG and NC in propellant, most probably as a solid solution structure. These results are consistent with TG-DTG, DSC and solution NMR.
