In this Study, various composite and doped ZnS nanostructures were synthesized by liquid phase method. The growth mechanisms were analyzed and the sample's PL performances were studied emphatically. We characterized the samples with X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), photoluminescence (PL) and energy dispersive analysis system of X-ray (EDS). The main research content and results were as follows:(1) The powder was prepared by hydrothermal method and coated with zinc carbonate hydroxide by homogeneous precipitation method. The particle was cubic ZnS. The surface of samples was imbricate or acerate and the size was 5~15μm. The results of PL spectra indicated the emission bands centered at 472nm,501nm,522nm,568nm and 602nm, respectively. The emission mechanism of ZnO-coated ZnS particles was also discussed briefly.(2) Transition metallic ions (Co2+/Ni2+) were introduced into ZnS lattices by chemical co-precipitation method. The result of XRD shows the samples were cubic ZnS. The mechanism of reaction was also discussed. The structures and PL spectra of samples have been studied. The results indicated there were 6 peaks.(3) The photocatalytic activity of ZnO-coated ZnS particles for degradation of methylene blue was investigated under UV and visible-light irradiation, respectively. The result indicated the samples have good photocatalytic activity. The photocatalytic mechanism was also discussed.(4) The ZnS film was obtained by chemical bath deposition method, and then the composite film was successfully synthesized on glass substrates with zinc nitrate and hexamethylenetetramine. The results of PL spectra indicated the emission mechanism was very complex.
