Diphenolic acid is an important polymer material monomer, which can be used in the synthesising of epoxy resin, phenolic resin, polycarbonate, and other chemical products, these chemical products occupying an important position in basic chemical raw materials.Firstly, the characters, opplication and the development of diphenolic acid were reviewed. Then, the nature, purpose, the reaction mechanism or the synthesis methods and of water-soluble phenolic resin and epoxy resin were also introduced.In this paper, the technology of synthesis of diphenolic acid by inorganic acid was investigated . Facors including the concentration and the amount of main catalyst, the amount of assistant catalyst, the ratio of raw materials, temperature and reaction time were tested by combined Orthogonal experiment with artificial neural network ,the optimum conditions of the reaction were attained : n [phenol] : n[LA] =2:1, n[H2SO4]: n[LA] = 1.4:1, reaction time 22h, reaction temperature 60℃, Under conditions, the yield of product is 92.6% after refined. This technology can shorten reaction time shortly compare with that with hydrochloride acid as catalyst.With the catalyst of sodium hydroxide, soluble phenolic resin were synthesized by the reaction of diphenolic acid (DPA) home-made and formaldehyde solution (F) , the soluble phenolic resin can be used in impregnation industry . Facors on performance of the product were investigated which including the type and amount of catalyst, reaction time, temperature, different feeding ways and the different ratio of raw materials, results of the research showed that: the sequencee in accordance with the basic catalystâ†'Formaldehydeâ†'diphenolic acid is the best. The optimum conditions were determined: n (F) / n (DPA) = 4.0, n (OH-) / n (DPA) = 0.125, temperature 70℃, reaction time 2 h, under the conditions of this process, the indicators of diphenolic acid -type water soluble phenolic resin synthesized meet the state standards.In this paper, diphenolic acid-type epoxy resin were synthesised by the method of catalytic solvent, the phase transfer catalyst were (CH3)4NCl. The optimized process conditions of the reaction were attained: n[DPA]/ n[ECH]= 1/2, the content of NaOH were 30%, temperature were 70℃, reaction time were4 h, the mole ratio of (CH3)4NCl to DPA were 0.02 : 1. Under the conditions of this process, the Medium molecular weight diphenolic acid- type of epoxy resin can be synthesized , which epoxy value is 0.13, the product was pale yellow solid. This epoxy resin can be used as raw materials in the fields of coating, adhesive etc.
