As a bridge between smokers and the mainstream smoke,filter can effectively filtrate some harmful components. In order for selection of filters, further modification,reducing Tar harm reduction and giving a scientific basis and technological support, the interception efficiency of filters for filters of different materials on the harmful components and their influencing factors were studied.(1)The method of determination of the total particulate matter in cigarette filter and its relationship with smoking were developed. The results showed that the weight of filter before and after suction was the total particulate matter content; the change of draw resistance was the important factor of the impact of total particulate matter and the change of draw resistance should be small;(2) Cigarttes with two different filter materials of cellulose acetate and modified polypropylene were selected to study the filtration effects of harmful components in cigarette mainstream smoke.The results indicated that:for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, filtration efficiency of cellulose acetate filter is higher than that of polypropylene filter; for aromatic amines, tobacco-specific nitrosamines, volatile carbonyl compounds and phenols, the interception efficiency of cellulose acetate filter was close to that of polypropylene fiiter, and the former was a little higher than the latter; for ammonia, filtration efficiency of acetate filter was higher than that of polypropylen;(3) Two different brands of cigarettes with filters of different pressure drop were selected to study the filtration effects of ammonia, phenols and tobacco-specific nitrosamines in cigarette mainstream smoke.The results showed that:for ammonia, filtration efficiency first increased and then decreased significantly while filter pressure drop increased, the best pressure was 2940Pa; for phenols, in addition to resorcinol, the filtration efficiency of two kinds of filter cigarettes increased slowly and then decreased with the pressure drop increased, the appropriate filter pressure drop value was 2940Pa;for tobacco-specific nitrosamines, the filtration efficiency of two was clearly different, the appropriate pressure drop of two cigarettes were respectively 2550 and 2940Pa;(4) Cigarttes with the general filter and the groove filter were selected to study the filtration efficiency of ammonia,phenols and tobacco-specific nitrosamines in mainstream smoke. The results showed that:different filters should be selected to reduce more content of harmful components in mainstream smoke under different pressure drops of filters.
