Traditional plastic, produced from synthetic polymers, are commonly used in production and social life for several types of applications, including packaging materials, greenhouse construction, overlay films, ranging from industry to agriculture and other areas. However, the extensive application of these traditional plastics brought about a series of problems.Currently, for severe environmental pollution caused by non-biodegradable petroleum-based polymer materials, there is an urgent need to develop environmentally benign materials from renewable resources. Corn starch, due to resource-rich and low prices, is widely used in chemical, pharmaceutical and food industry, thus, is one of the most promising materials to achieve this objective. The synthetic aliphatic polyester, due to its outstanding economy and biodegradable performance, has become one of the most popular researches of bio-degradable materials both at home and abroad. Poly butylene succinate (PBS), a typical semi-crystalline thermoplastic resin with excellent mechanical properties and biodegradability performance, could have wide applications in the future. As a result, its important research value has been widely accepted. This paper is the development of a fully biodegradable polymer materials, using thermoplastic starch (TPS) to the blending modification of poly butylene succinate (PBS) for research purposes, in addition, in terms of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), micro-particles morphology and structure properties of the composite were characterized. At the same time, through the the measurements for mechanical properties, rheology performance and the associated thermal performance of samples, comparing orthogonal experiment and other related methods, impacts of corn starch plasticization as well as starch content on the various aspects of performance of TPS/PBS modified materials are discussed, eventually, using soil burial test to detect the biodegradability of TPS/PBS modified materials. With research methods of macroscopic properties combining microscopic mechanism, through thermoplastic starch that obtained from various formulas, the rheological properties, the appearance color, the toughness, micro-morphology, retrogradation properties, thermal stability, as well as the final mechanical properties of the sample are concerned to determine the plasticized formulations, ultimately, the performance of thermoplastic starch prepared by a compound plasticizer of formamide, glycerol and urea turned out to be extremely good. Comparing blending materials with various kinds of coupling agent, we found that the performances of aluminum coupling agent L-3Z treated blends (thermoplastic starch content of 15%),the tensile strength was 22.04MPa, elongation at break of 86.75%, elastic modulus was 0.12GPa, fixed rate of stress elongation was 1.28%. The mechanical properties of pure PBS:the tensile strength was 28.179MPa, elongation at break of 68.81%, elastic modulus was 0.165GPa, and fixed rate of stress elongation was 0.627%.Demonstrating a good performance of toughness, especially the elongation at break has greatly improved, the material prepared matches the application requirements.
