Plastic waste is called "white pollution". It has become one of the main components of the world envirmental pollution. To solve this problem, many researchers tried to develop that can degrade and have good performance biodegradable plastic to replace the traditional plastic. As nature polymer, starch is source widely and cheap. Starch has the probability of thermoplasticity and good biodegradability.So many of the researchers focus on the starch.In this paper, the thermoplastic starch (TPS) was prepared by twin screw extruder, the glycerol was used as plasticizer in the TPS. The starch plasticizing mechanism was studied by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). We studied the effort on the property of TPS. The results indicate that we can get good performance TPS by appropriate parameters. In the paper, several kind of starch were used to prepared TPS. We found that, amylase contents and the degree of polymerization of the starch have significantly influence on the performance of the TPS.In order improve the performance of the TPS, poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) was blended with TPS. The effert of PBS on the properties of the TPS/PBS was studied. In this paper,researchers tried to add flax fiber into the TPS/PBS blends. The result show that PBS can significantly enhance the performance of the TPS. The tensile strength and flexural strength of the blends increase with the increasing contents of flax fiber. But the elongation at break of the blends has opposite trend.Coupling agent can improve the interface reaction between the fiber and the blends matrix. In this paper, silane coupling agent was used to study the influence on the compsite.Water resistance is another index on the performance of the composite. We study the influence on the water resistance by content of the PBS, flax fiber and coupling agent. After 24h immersing test, the water absorption of the sample which PBS content is 30wt% and 70wt% respective 10.3wt% and 2.62%, the water absorption of the sample which fiber content 0.5wt% and 2wt% respective are 5.16wt% and 4.11%, the water absorption of the sample which has coupling agent are 0.941%. The result indated that, water resistance of the compsite increase with the increasing contents of the PBS and flax fiber. The compsite using coupling agent has better water resistance than that without using coupling agent.We tried to optimize the parameter for the compsite in this paper. To tensile strength,flexural strength and elongation at break have different respectively technical parameters. The maximum value respective are 29.85MPa,42.34MPa and10.87%.We also studied the degree of influence by various factors.This research results can provide theory and practice for the futher research on the TPS and prepared degradable materials which have good performance.
