Rolling mill vibration not only have an important impact on the strip's quality, but also easily to damage the equipment and effect productivity. Therefore, analyzing the stability of the rolling mill in order to provide effective measures to suppress rolling mill vibration.In this paper, base on rolling theory, a linear rolling process model was estabilished.Combined the mill's vertical vibration and torsional vibration,built mill dynamic structural model.Analysed the cause of rolling mill self-excited vibration, combined rolling process model and structural model, built uni-modal and multi-modal single-stand chatter model and tandem rolling chatter model.All models stability were analysed, proposed chatter model stability criteria,obtain the main parameters on system stability influence laws,and simulated them by software MATLAB/Simulink, verified the stability analysis conclusion's correctness by simulation results, finally through on-site rolling experiment to verify the model and simulation results are correct.In this paper,chatter models were established with coupled rolling process model and structure model,at present, most studies on mill vibration is separated of them. Stability analysis is base on the system transfer function characteristic equation roots,this is different with most researchers'energy analysis method.By analysing uni-modal single-stand chatter model, find that entry and exit tension effect on system's equivalent damping coefficient is very apparent, and calculated between entry and exit tension stress, reduction rate and exit tension with different friction coefficients critical stable relationship.Analysed the stability of tandem rolling chatter model, obtained rolling velocity and friction coefficient, rolling velocity and exit tension stress critical stable relationship.Through tandem rolling simulation analysis,obtain the reason and character of rolling mill coupled vibrations,rolling velocity and inter-stand distance have an important impact to the tandem rolling system's stability.
