As the main load-bearing part of aircraft, Wheel Hub always works in high-strength and high load conditions. So it is susceptible to fatigue cracks and other defects. Its quality plays an important role in the aircraft safety. It is an important issue to get right forging technology to form the wheel hub forging with anti-fatigue propertie.In this paper, the forging technology of wheel hub has been studied. The main works having been carried out are as follows:(1) We have studied the influence of the forging process parameters on forming load, metal flow, stress, strain, flow line of the forging through simulation with finite element simulation software Deform 2D. The results are listed blow. Firstly, increasing the mold temperature moderately can increase the forging temperature and temperature uniformity and reduce flow stress and the forming load. Secondly, reducing the deformation rate can reduce the forming load. Thirdly, increasing the friction factor can significantly reduce flow lines outcrop and improve the distribution of flow Lines. Lastly, in the isothermal forging process, the forging load is only 57% of it in hot forging process and its flow lines distribution is reasonable.(2) By the use of Deform 3D and the software of microstructure simulation based on CA, we have studied the microstructure evolution of the forging in isothermal die forging and hot die forging. In isothermal die forging process, the forging's dislocation density distribution becomes even, the percentage of dynamic recrystallization increase, the grain is fine and homogeneous and it effectively suppresses formation and development of the crack.(3) We have studied the forging process of scaled Wheel Hub through experiment and the influence of hot die forging and isothermal forging process on forging forming quality. The results of experimental and simulation show that by use of the isothermal forging process, we can improve the forging's microstructure and effectively suppresses formation of defects and improve the fatigue performance of forging.
