This paper focused on the thermal desorption and chromatography working condition in the detection of total volatile organic composite(TVOC) in indoor air.One kind of TVOC standard solution was detected in different thermal desorption time respectively. And then the optimum thermal desorption time could be obtained by the comparison of peak areas which were obtained in above experiments. To generate the optimum chromatography working condition, a series of orthogonal experiments were designed, which were about the initial temperature, initial time, heating rate and terminate temperature. A well separation could be reached for each component in TVOC by using The optimized chromatography working condition and the analysis time was reduced from 53min to 32min for each detection. The method is rapid, simple sensitive and accurate and the percent recovery ranges were from 99.31 % to 103.70% and the RSD(relative standard deviation) was lower than 2.06%. It shows that the method is useful for the purpose mentioned. The standard curves were draft and the TVOC content in a big office building was detected by using the optimized chromatography working condition. All the works above were aimed to verified the optimized chromatography working condition could be applied in practice whether or not. A satisfactory test result could be obtained from the TVOC detection by the two methods.
