As the largest fresh water lake in Yunnan Province, Dianchi Lake has played an important role in socio-economic development for Kunming and other cities in the basin, but the serious increasing pollution of Dianchi Lake made lake water quality turned out to be worse than five categories of poor and the lake ecology system is severely damaged. Dianchi lake pollution, which needs to be solved immediately, has restricted the urban development.To establish an effective lake management, it is supposed to acquire advanced water quality monitoring and early warning systems. Traditional methodologies are not suitable for water quality research and distribution modeling, because the multi-regionalized variables, such as water quality indicators, have stochastic and structural features. This paper uses the theory and method of geostatistics like spatial-time variogram and space-time Kriging to focus on water quality distribution modeling in Dianchi Lake. The range of space variogram is around 10km, and the range of time variogram is about five months, through the water quality modeling spatial-temporal distribution map, we can get to the conclusion that water pollution of Dianchi lake focus is in the north and north-eastern area near Kunming city and Chenggong flower and plant area. Moreover, the situation of water pollution in 2006 is worse than the in 2005.Controlling water pollution in Dianchi Lake and restoring the ecological system of Dianchi Lake, we need to not only monitor and predict the changes in water quality, but also need the policy, which could reflect the value of Dianchi Lake, to make decisions, and need to enhance public environmental awareness. Although the assessment method become gradually mature, and there lots of researches have been carried out, for the Dianchi lake, this is an initiative trying. Using the methods of shadow engineering, replacement market and opportunity cost, this paper estimated the monetary value of ecosystem service of Dianchi Lake. The final total value is 7.8228 billion Yuan, direct use value is 5.0116 billion Yuan which accounted for 64.1 percent of the total value and indirect use value is 2.8112 billion Yuan which accounted for 35.9 percent of the total value. The results prove that Dianchi lake wetland has a high value of service function, it is very important for the economics development of Kunming city by protecting the Dianchi lake wetland.
