Production scheduling has been proved to belong to the class of Non-deterministic Polynomial (NP) hard problem. As it influenced by different methods of management in real production environment, its optimization goal, optimization strategy and optimization mathematical model are also different. Almost every production environment is unique, so it is hard to solve the other production scheduling by using one scheduling solution. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) pharmacy is a kind of special production scheduling environment, whose production process is very complex, production process differing in different types of drug, and belongs to the job-shop (JSP) production mode. At present, the most common way used in production scheduling is manual arrangement, which will let the enterprise fail to keep up pace with market. So it is urgent to raise an effective strategy in production scheduling.This paper systematically studied JSP scheduling problem under TCM pharmacy enterprise background and analyzed the production process of TCM pharmacy. Going on the premise that different drugs produce on different machine and different drugs have different processing procedure, the author raised an optimization method in the production scheduling by making a shortest time to finish production plan. Since Genetic algorithm (GA) is an effective way to solve combinatorial optimization problem, the paper adopts it to solve the production scheduling, and finally realize a production scheduling prototype system. The main results are as follows:(1) Advocates that use GA to solve TCM pharmacy production scheduling problems. The GA is a highly effective intelligent algorithm, can get a global optimal solution in solving combinatorial optimization method. The successful realization of the system has proved that using GA in pharmaceutical production scheduling problem is feasible.(2) Proposes that turn the TCM pharmaceutical production scheduling problem to normal JSP problem by standardized program. TCM pharmacy production itself is not a general JSP problem, so the paper proposes that solve the practical problems by standardized processing.(3) Suggests that divide the main algorithm part into some subsystem. To keep maintaining of the system easily and make the intelligent scheduling part independent, this paper design the main algorithm part well to reduce the coupling of different module.(4) Implements a data independent prototype system of TCM pharmaceutical production scheduling. Using this system can not only solve the practical problems, but also can imitate classic job-shop scheduling problem by well configuration.
