Rotating machinery is widely used in mechanical, chemical, electric power, metallurgy and other industries, in order to reduce the rotating machinery fault, reducing the economic losses caused by faults, fault diagnosis of rotating machinery is paid more and more attention. With the development of science and technology, domestic and foreign scholars have put forth a lot about the fault diagnosis methods and techniques, and many have been widely used in practical projects. Wavelet transform has a great advantage in signal processing, and cluster analysis has obvious advantages in pattern recognition. This article discussed the rotating machinery fault diagnosis, combining the wavelet transform and clustering analysis.1) After reading the extensive literature, this article describes the significance of rotating machinery fault diagnosis, content and status of international research, development, and outlook.2) Expounds five kinds of failure mechanism and prevention measures, the five kinds of failure mechanism are the rotor misalignment, rotor imbalance, rotor loose, oil whirl and oil whip.3) Four faults operation conditions were simulated on the Bently Rotor Experimental instrument, which are rotating machinery unbalance, rotor misalignment, rotor loose and oil whirl. Collected the signal of four faults operation conditions, provided data for the wavelet transform.4) Diagnosis the fault by combining the wavelet transform and cluster analysis. Concrete steps are: first, transform the vibration displacement signal with the wavelet, got feature vector based on scale - the energy mode, and then cluster the feature vectors for reference of unknown fault type.5) Research the technology of VB calling MATLAB, and use it in the fault diagnosis system based on cluster analysis and wavelet. Using ActiveX technology, VB can call MATLAB, the wavelet transform and the calculation of Euclidean distance are processed by MATLAB, and windows application is written in VB, the calculation results of data was analysised and visualization, which will greatly enhance the program Development efficiency.
