Red clay is a special territory, broader distribution in China, With hot and humid climatic conditions of the carbonate rocks over a long period of physical, chemical weathering and red-oriented role was to form a brown red, brown red, purple and brown and yellow colors of the high-plasticity clay body. With the comprehensive study of the red clay to deepen and expand, the red clay which has the features is no longer confined to the original definition of the product of carbonate rock weathering. Founding basalt, granite, clastic rocks, and siltstone are likely to form the red clay which has the similar characteristics with the red clay formed by carbonate rock weathering,so the contents of the red clay has been larger widened compared with the initial.In this paper, Hainan red clay as the research object, the author introduces the research of red clay, discussing the causes and material composition of red clay and Hainan Island's unique geology and climate environment. Through the consolidation tests and triaxial compression test of red clay in different states, according to test results and theoretical analysis, the results obtained are as follows:(1)Original red clay in the consolidation pressure less than structural strength occurs elastic and plastic deformation,because the existence of structural strength, deformation of undisturbed soil is less than remodeling, destruction of the state showed brittle fracture, the stress-strain relationship for the processing of soft-type; When the consolidation pressure is more than structural strength, the structure of the red clay was destroyed, soil's compression curve segment decreased drastically,destruction of the state showed ductile failure, the stress-strain relationship for the work-hardening type. The remodeling red clay under all levels of consolidation pressure were tested ductile failure, the stress-strain relationship for the work-hardening type.(2)Based on the triaxial tests, summing up the functional relationship between water content and the cohesive force.(3)Based on the consolidation tests and triaxial tests, discussing, quantitative analyzing the structural of the red clay from both the stress and strain.(4)The structural constitutive model considered an integrated structure in the related research is introduced to the red clay of Hainan, we found that this constitutive relation can reflect effectively the stress-strain relationship of Hainan red clay, obtaining the parameters of structural constitutive relation with Hainan red clay.
