The igniter of a solid missile motor is the research object, factors that may affect igniter safety under the conditions of logistic handling, hold-open and before launching, as well as missile motor in working process are analyzed in this paper. Referring to factors mentioned above, measures as safety design of electromagnetic environment, design of desensitized electrical ignition tube, design of mechanical isolating device, design of tightness and fire-resistance, and selecting of safety composition are taken onto igniters accordingly. Thus, on one hand, safety of igniter and whole missile system is improved; on the other hand ignition device design of missile motor is simplified, and the universality of igniter is upgraded.In order to verify the designing effect, traditional calculations and finite element calculation methods are combined to carry out theoretical calculation for strength of igniter structure, tightness of each sealing part, electrical character and position of turning corner, etc.. Moreover, on the basis of calculations above, full test verification is carried out and the result proves that all safety designs have achieved the expected effect. Thus, the high safety property of igniter can meet the safety requirements for using in missile motors.The designing result and analyzing method mentioned in this paper can be used for the igniter design of middle and small size solid missile motors in areas of land-to-air, ship-to-air, air-to-air, and air-to-land which require higher safety level.
